Revamping Mega Sports Camp

Elevating the Game: Revamping Mega Sports Camp VBS

Carl Barnhill

In the ever-evolving landscape of children’s ministry, visual appeal plays a crucial role in engaging young minds. This is important for communicating the Gospel effectively. That’s why we are talking about elevating the game and revamping Mega Sports Camp VBS.

In fact, Recognizing this, the Assemblies of God is partnering with Church Visuals to reimagine the visual elements of their popular Mega Sports Camp Vacation Bible School (VBS) program.

John Hailes, the children’s ministry discipleship coordinator at the Assemblies of God national office, recently shared insights into this collaboration and its impact on their VBS offerings.

Check out our conversation with John on the Your Visuals Matter Podcast:

With a 20-year history, Mega Sports Camp has long been a staple in many churches. It blends sports activities with faith-based learning. However, it was time for a visual overhaul to keep pace with current trends and expectations.

When a program is 20 years old, it had a lot of great features, but maybe at times hadn’t really moved with the culture,” Hills explained. This realization led to a partnership with our team at Church Visuals.

The collaboration has focused on updating the Mega Sports Camp’s visual identity, starting with their latest theme, “Blaze a Trail.”

Our Work on Blaze a Trail

This refresh aimed to strike a balance between maintaining the sports-centric focus of the program and incorporating the visually rich elements that have made traditional VBS programs so appealing to children and families.

One of the key advantages of John’s team choosing to work with Church Visuals, was our deep understanding of the children’s ministry space. “There’s a lot of great designers, but there’s not many great designers who know the children’s ministry space,” John said.

The new visual direction for Blaze a Trail incorporates a simple yet engaging design. This offers churches plenty of decorating options. The theme image features elements like trees, nature scenes, bright colors, and camping gear. Each of these provide churches with easily replicable decoration ideas.

John stressed the importance of strong visuals in attracting both churched and unchurched families. “We’re not trying to reach church families,” he explained. “Unchurched people, they’re not limiting their media content to the same degree… We’ve got to be competitive with the way we look.”

This competitive edge is crucial in a world where children are constantly exposed to high-quality visual content across various platforms.

The investment in custom visuals also allows Mega Sports Camp to carve out its unique identity in the crowded VBS market.

Looking ahead, the Assemblies of God plans to continue expanding their use of media-rich content in Mega Sports Camp.

The partnership between the Assemblies of God and Church Visuals demonstrates a commitment to excellence in children’s ministry. By investing in high-quality, custom visuals, Mega Sports Camp is positioning itself to remain relevant and impactful in a rapidly changing cultural landscape.
