Using AI for Church Visuals and Content with Raz Bradley

Church elder and financial planner Raz Bradley joins us in this episode of Conversation with Ministry Leaders. He shares his journey into AI tools for churches and ministry. He’s currently subscribed to four AI platforms after testing six or seven options. His favorites include Suno AI for music generation, ChatGPT for creative work, and Midjourney for image creation.
Bradley discusses the evolution of AI technology. Initially, generated images had distorted features like seven fingers. However, these tools have rapidly improved over the past year. Now they offer practical applications for church ministry.
The conversation explores ethical considerations around AI in church settings. Bradley believes AI shouldn’t write sermons since authentic content matters for worship. Instead, he suggests using AI as a research tool. Churches can upload public domain works like Calvin’s Institutes and query them directly.
For visual content, Bradley explains different AI strengths. Midjourney excels at photorealistic images like beautiful Christmas trees. Meanwhile, Dall-E handles text-based graphics better. He often combines these tools with Photoshop or Canva for final touches.
Bradley has created custom AI tools for his kids’ ministry. These generate craft ideas and coloring pages based on Bible verses. This saves significant time for ministry leaders.
Video generation remains challenging. Current tools can create simple B-roll footage but struggle with recognizable locations or detailed scenes. They work best for generic content like birds flying.
Throughout the discussion, Bradley emphasizes the importance of discernment. Ministry leaders need expert guidance to craft effective AI prompts. The technology changes rapidly, requiring continuous learning and adaptation.
