In this latest episode of Conversation with Ministry Leaders, Samuel Dueth from Awaken Church in San Diego joins the show to discuss multi-campus ministry and discipleship resources. Awaken Church operates 11 campuses across multiple states. Each campus has live preaching pastors rather than simulcast services. He talks to us about visuals in multi-site ministry.

Samuel authored “Following Jesus,” a discipleship book designed as next steps for new believers. The book covers seven foundational elements including prayer, worship, Bible reading, and making disciples. It’s been serving churches for eight years now. The goal is creating active followers rather than passive Christians.

The conversation shifts to visual media’s role in church ministry. Samuel emphasizes balance between Holy Spirit dependence and intentional atmosphere creation. Different events require different visual approaches. Some need high energy graphics while others need softer touches.

Awaken Church’s planning process involves long runways for major events like conferences. However, weekly sermon graphics work differently. Each campus preaches unique messages within themed guidelines. The central creative team produces graphics for all 11 campuses. Pastors submit message titles and points through an online form, sometimes as late as Saturday morning.

Samuel highlights the importance of cohesive visuals that match the message. He shares examples of when graphics missed the mark versus when they perfectly complemented the sermon. With his graphic design background, he appreciates production teams’ challenges and timeline pressures.
