Dean shares his remarkable journey from Australian surfer to church tech innovator. After a powerful salvation experience at 17, Dean found himself unexpectedly preaching and leading people to Christ.
From there, Dean spent years as a traveling evangelist before planting a church in Atlanta. However, everything changed when he purchased coffee through the Starbucks app. Inspired by that simple transaction, Dean enlisted his engineer son to create a giving app for churches. This idea quickly blossomed into what is now Tithe.ly.
Initially focused on mobile giving, the platform has expanded to include database management, communications, and engagement tools. Today, Tithe.ly processes billions in donations and serves thousands of churches worldwide.
The conversation also covers the company’s first Modern Church Leader conference, designed specifically for church technology staff and administrators. Dean emphasizes the importance of creating intuitive, beautiful user experiences and explains why visuals matter in digital products.
Despite his success, Dean remains passionate about serving churches and credits the Holy Spirit’s guidance in business decisions. His advice to ministry leaders includes prioritizing continuous learning and staying curious about emerging technologies like AI.
